UZUHIKO collects as little as possible.

Visit log

To keep the site running and to spot errors and abuse, we record each public page view: the time, the page address, the IP address, the browser and device type, the operating system, approximate location from your IP address (country, region and city, to roughly city-level accuracy), your internet provider, the page you came from and, if you are signed in, your account.

Location is looked up on our own server from the IP address, using the MaxMind GeoLite2 database; addresses are not sent to any third party. Only site staff can see this log. It is kept for 90 days and then deleted automatically. We do not sell it, share it with advertisers, or use it to build profiles across other sites. Static files, API requests and staff pages are not recorded.

Automated crawlers and link previews are recorded too, and are marked as bots.

We set one cookie, uz_vid, that holds a random identifier. It lets us tell repeat visits from one browser apart, and it lasts one year. Visitors in the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked for consent first, with an accept or decline banner, and the cookie is set only after they accept. Visitors elsewhere are not shown a banner. If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, no cookie is set. It is not used for advertising and is not shared.

Without an account

Theme and spoiler preferences are stored only in your browser's local storage. We do not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics scripts.

With an account

We store your username, email address, display name and profile preferences.
Passwords are hashed by Django and never stored in readable form.
If you sign in with Google, Google tells us your Google account ID, email address, name and profile photo link. We use them only to create and sign in to your account; we do not receive your Google password or access anything else in your Google account. You can unlink Google in your profile once your account has a password.
Email subscriptions store your address, chosen topics, language and spoiler level.

Your choices

You can change your profile at any time. To delete your account or subscription, or to ask what we hold about a visit, contact the editor. Records that are not tied to an account are removed by age, not by request.
