A discussion on Reddit has highlighted growing concern among manga readers regarding Kawaki's reduced role in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. User Significant_Shop_735 argues that the sequel series is failing its deuteragonist by keeping him sidelined while centralizing all plot focus and praise around Boruto Uzumaki. The fan compares Kawaki's current state to Sasuke Uchiha's prominent position in the original Naruto series, where Sasuke maintained independent motivations, dedicated story arcs, and major battles that allowed him to function as a true second protagonist.

According to the Reddit post, Kawaki's stagnation contradicts the very premise implied by the sequel's title, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, which symbolizes both Boruto and Kawaki. The post notes that for over twelve consecutive chapters, Kawaki has remained largely inactive inside Eida's residence, repeating his resolve to eliminate Boruto without engaging in significant character development or active conflict. Essential elements of his story line, including his unresolved trauma, his Karma mark, and his complex relationships with Naruto Uzumaki and Amado, have been left unexplored during this period.

The critique also targets the narrative structure and pacing of the monthly manga release. The fan points out that across twenty chapters of Two Blue Vortex, the series has featured only two major battle sequences, with much of the remaining content consisting of conversational scenes inside residential settings. Furthermore, the writer argues that romantic subplots involving Eida, Sumire Kakei, and Sarada Uchiha have taken disproportionate space, shifting the tone of a shonen action manga toward romantic drama while constantly re-emphasizing Boruto's heroics.

To resolve these issues, the Reddit user calls on illustrator Mikio Ikemoto and creator Masashi Kishimoto to grant Kawaki his own narrative arc. The post urges the creators to move Kawaki out of Eida's house, engage him in active combat, and force him to navigate his emotional dynamic with Eida directly rather than ignoring her feelings. The contributor emphasizes that for the concept of two opposing protagonists to work, both characters must remain compelling and active participants in the narrative.

The dynamic between Boruto and Kawaki forms the backbone of the post-timeskip era. Following Eida's activation of Omnipotence, Kawaki succeeded in swapping roles with Boruto, portraying himself as Naruto's legitimate son while branding Boruto as an outcast traitor responsible for the Seventh Hokage's disappearance. Despite this pivotal setup, fans express concern that Kawaki's lack of agency in recent chapters weakens the tension required for their eventual confrontation.

As Boruto: Two Blue Vortex continues its monthly serialization in Shueisha's V Jump magazine, readers remain attentive to whether upcoming chapters will address Kawaki's character arc. The story continues to develop the threat of the Shinju and the mysteries surrounding Amado's underlying motives, leaving open the opportunity for Kawaki to re-enter the main conflict in future installments.
