On Reddit's r/Boruto community, a fan analysis examined the challenges of power scaling across the Naruto and Boruto franchises, arguing that linear chain scaling often fails to account for combat context, character matchups, and unreliable in-universe statements. The author raised questions about how fans measure strength when textual statements contradict actual battle outcomes.

The author pointed to recent developments in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex to highlight contradictions between character statements and fight results. Although Eida claimed that the Shinju were completely out of Code's league in early chapters, the author highlighted how Code later fought Hidari and Sarada Uchiha simultaneously. In that encounter, Code effectively overwhelmed Hidari, who relied on divine roots to regenerate, despite Code facing physical targeting limitations.

The post also addressed past and present statements in the franchise that proved inaccurate or misleading over time. Examples cited include Pain claiming he would have lost to Jiraiya had he known his secret, Hiruzen Sarutobi being declared the strongest Hokage in his prime, and Kawaki assuming Naruto Uzumaki could defeat Jigen. The author also mentioned Kabuto claiming Edo Tensei Madara Uchiha was stronger than in his prime, which Madara himself contradicted, as well as Code being described as stronger than Jigen despite losing an eye to Sasuke Uchiha without the Rinnegan.

To challenge pure outcome-based scaling, the discussion analyzed specific match outcomes where circumstances heavily influenced the result. Examples include Kakashi Hatake's initial encounter with Zabuza Momochi, Gaara's battle against Deidara while protecting the Hidden Sand Village, and Sasuke's fight with Deidara where elemental advantage played a decisive role. The author noted that defeating an opponent does not automatically make a character superior in overall combat stats.

The thread further examined the impact of overpowered techniques such as Uzuhiko, Kamui, Particle Style, and the Totsuka Blade on power scaling. The author questioned whether possessing a single devastating ability elevates a character above another in general strength, citing Sarada using Ohirume against Ryu and hypothetical scenarios involving Boruto's Rasengan Uzuhiko against Jura.

The discussion concludes that evaluating power levels in the Boruto universe requires a case-by-case approach considering matchup mechanics, tactical context, and special abilities rather than relying on strict hierarchy chains or literal interpretations of character quotes.
